Colombia is a country with a rich history and home to many great artists. If you ever are lucky enough to visit, here are some terrific Museums.
1. Museo del Oro – Bogotá
This museum host the most golden artifacts in the world. Multiple cities in South America have a similar exhibition. However, non has such an extensive collection of gold. The museum explains the different kind of artificats of several indigenous groups in several eras. Moreover it explains the symbolism behind all decorative golden objects.
2. Museum of Antioquia- Medellín
If you visit a lot of museums -like I did- in Colombia, you can not help but appreciate Boteros work. Even if you’re not into the “gordos” you will likely see a piece of art donated by Colombias most famous painter. In the center of his beloved Medellín you can find not only his finest work, moreover you see rooms filled with art he collected. From Picassos to Monet. He brought them to Colombia. Moreover does the Musuem of Antioquia has a collection on Modern Colombian art.
3. Museo de Arte Moderno – Cartagena
While I wasn’t that much charmed by the old colonial city itself too much- maybe its me being European – the museum of modern art in Cartagena was a delight. Not only was it a good escape from the heat, it was also a place filled with contemporary art. The museum has a permanent exhibition of 50’s art and chances their temporary exhibition often. The museum is set in a colonial building and is not too big.
